Pelicans on Parade in Olde Towne Slidell: Art East
A few good pelicans are looking for a place to call home. Leadership Northshore has tapped the talents of 30 local artists to create pelican-shaped art pieces that will adorn the city while raising money for the Children’s Wish Endowment, an organization that grants the wishes of St. Tammany with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Slidell Duck Race to Bank Big Bucks for Local Nonprofits
The last time you were at Heritage Park, did you take the time to walk along Bayou Bonfouca, listening to the quiet lapping of the water against the concrete bulkhead, finding peace in the tranquil reflection of trees on the bayou’s surface? You probably didn’t picture 5,000 yellow, plastic ducks. The vision of 5,000 yellow, plastic ducks floating along that stretch of Bayou Bonfouca is all I can think of whenever I set foot in Heritage Park, thanks to the latest project cooked up by a Leadership Northshore class of 2012 team. Read more

Music will fill the air at Camp Salmen near Slidell for a free Mother’s Day weekend Spring Fling to be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 35122 Camp Salmen Road off U.S. 190 near Slidell. Don Vappie will brings his quartet and also the Creole Jazz Serenaders to perform at the free event. Read more

Slidell Putting on Party May 19 for Louisiana's 200th Birthday

Take a visit from Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and many of Louisiana’s state, parish and municipal officials. Add live entertainment by LeRoux, Christian Serpas and Ghost Town, the Dynamic Smooth Family Gospel Choir and the Bayou Liberty Jazz Band. Stir in a smattering of children’s activities, an interactive Cajun music presentation by Papillion, and dashes of Louisiana history. Spice it up with great food and top it with a 6-foot alligator and its miniature sidekick. What results is a heaping bowl of cultural gumbo being served up to celebrate Louisiana’s 200th birthday. Slidell Leadership Northshore team partners with hotel to furnish charities
Members of the Leadership Northshore class of 2011 took recycling to a new level when they found new homes for furniture from an entire hotel. When it came time to start the $2 million total renovation of the Holiday Inn and Suites, Slidell, general manager Kelly Le was taking part in the Leadership Northshore program and looking with her team for a worthy project. Camp Salmen in Slidell will soon get a bronze plaque for historic Salmen Lodge
Camp Salmen Nature Park’s Salmen Lodge, a French Creole-style building on the National Registry of Historic Places, someday will have a bronze plaque recognizing it as one of only 26 buildings in the parish that date before the Civil War and the only remaining building in the picturesque nature park off U.S. 190, west of Slidell, with any historical and architectural significance.
